"Donut Grow Up!"

One of my favorite things about being a photographer is having my daughter as my muse. When her first birthday was approaching, having a traditional cake smash was not something I personally wanted to do. But, we both love donuts, and the theme was a no-brainer!

Seriously, how cute is she?

Donut Bar LV was incredibly welcoming! They even helped us entertain her. The donuts were absolutely delicious and we couldn't have asked for a better morning.

Downtown Las Vegas has so many neat features. Between the new foodie options, Container Park, and the art/redesign, we spent the morning playing tourists with a camera.

Welcome Baby Bradleigh!

Baby Bradleigh Santos came into the world December 16th, 2017. She has already brought so much happiness, love, and laughter to her mom Stasi, her dad Al, and her big brothers Casey and Evan.

Bradleigh was born in Las Vegas, at Summerlin Hospital. She's as glam as it comes, matching PJs with her mom right out the gate.

Bradleigh, you will change the world!

Letter to my Daughter

Dear Madison,

One year ago you came into my life and changed everything I knew about myself. I loved you my whole life, I’ve prayed for you, I knew you would be my happiness and my purpose, but I never expected to find myself in you.

With you in my arms, I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I’ve given myself credit for. I will always protect you, I will always be your strength.

Your innocence and genuine happiness fills my heart. Your undeniable love for your dad and I gives me hope that you will bring light into the world and will grow up to impact humanity in a positive way.

You have made me question everything I stand for. I have questioned my goals, my career, my decisions, even my political and religious affiliations. Because of you, I want to do better. I want to impact the world I’m leaving behind for you. I want you to grow up and be proud that your mom left a positive foot print.

My heart has never known a love so deep and evergrowing. I have cried, laughed, screamed but most importantly, and above all, I have loved you with every bit of my existence. Whenever life kicks me down, you’re there to remind me why I sacrifice things and why I do the things I do. You remind me that God is within you and I. Loving you has reminded me that faith is a relationship of love between us and Jesus.

My wish for you is that you never stop learning, never settle for less then you deserve, never quit your daydream. You will change the world. You will live in a different generation/culture than your dad and I. I hope that you grow up in a world where you are not made to believe that being a women is a curse. I hope that you celebrate differences in cultures, in religion, and see differences in skin color as a reminder of individuality. That you grow up in a world where “loving thy neighbor” is inclusive of anyone and everyone around you. I hope you never forget not only where you come from, but also where your mom and dad come from. I hope you embrace your Cuban culture as much as your American. I hope that you are proud of me.

To infinity and beyond,

I love you.

Mama

Thank you to my friend, Javier Guerrero, for snapping these candid photos while on Maddy's first birthday shoot. I'll treasure these forever.

A Very Merry Target Christmas!

When you're in the holiday spirit, but too lazy to make a full-day's trip to see the Christmas light display.... Target!

Okay, I'll admit lazy is a poor choice of word. This semester in school has kicked my butt, weekends came and went and all I wanted was to sit on my couch with my little one and enjoy her company. Having to get bathed, dressed, packed for two people (her and I), was a long and tiring task.

So one very random Saturday night, I decided it was time for Maddy to see the Christmas lights... at Target. I took her to the toy aisle to see what "drew her attention". (By the way, she's 10 months at this point, I'm not entirely sure how I thought this would inspire Santa's letter.)

If you know my daughter, then you know she's obsessed with Moana. She even has a Hei hei toy (pictured above) that goes with her every where. I didn't have her Hei Hei with me, so we grabbed a new one (and ended up buying it). She also really loves music and singing and dancing, so we also got an Elena of Avalor microphone.

And then, the magic happened!

Target wins, yet again. I didn't actually spend more than the grocery budget and Madison was pretty impressed with the experience. I'd rate this overall excursion a 9/10.

#BoyMOM

Out of all the things in life I love experiencing, growing up and witnessing my friends build their families has got to be at the top! My best friend, Ashley, has been raising two beautiful, smart, and wild boys. I always thought I "understood" what it must be like to be a young mom, but truthfully, I had no idea. I'm now able to share the joys of motherhood with her and I think I have a better understanding. I spent a Saturday morning with Ashley and her husband Kris, and of course, their tribe leaders - Grayson and Landon. These are the moments that define us, that shape our families, and make us feel alive.

What is it like being a boy mom?

"Well, it keeps me on my toes. Being a boy mom means fart noises, BMX races, light saber duels, jam sessions, and at least four panic attacks per day. I love my boys with all of my heart and I cherish every hug and cuddle.

A typical Saturday includes: a lot of coffee (for me) and chocolate milk (for the boys), morning yoga, and tons of activities. We color, we draw, we jump on the trampoline, we play in the tree house, we practice writing, and we ride bikes. Mostly, we enjoy being together."

Childhood is a special time in a person’s life - it should include discovery and adventure, innocence and joy. I let my kids be kids, and I hope that when they have children of their own they will look back on their own childhoods and smile.

Becoming a mom to two beautiful boys has changed me in so many ways. From the moment that I held my oldest son in my arms for the first time, my life was forever changed. It was now my responsibility to raise a smart, healthy, kind, loving, gentleman. Fast forward to September 2013, and multiply that responsibility by 2. It was now my responsibility to raise two smart, healthy, kind, loving, gentlemen.

"20 years from today, I will be 46.

Wow.

I will have a 25 year old son and a 23 year old son with a 24th birthday fast-approaching. I like to think I will look back on this time of my life and pat myself on the back. I will probably remember this time of my life as the most challenging, yet also the most precious and important. 46 year old me will look back and remember two sleepy little boys finding their way to my bed on the nights that they woke up scared from a bad dream. 46 year old me will remember the heart break of the first school drop-off, and 46 year old me will remember all of the sleepy morning smiles."

"I think my favorite part about watching my boys grow up is just that --

watching them grow up.

It has been such a gift watching them grow from tiny new babies, into curious toddlers, into the wild and sweet little boys that they are today."
